Hi! I’m Dondré Richards, a portrait photographer born and raised on the vibrant island of St. Croix. I’m the eye behind Ohana Photographist, where every photo session is more than just a shoot—it’s a shared moment, a story unfolding, a friendship in the making.

I didn’t initially set out to become a photographer. What I’ve always been drawn to is beauty in places, people, ideas, and emotions. Photography became my way to preserve and share that beauty, especially the quiet, meaningful kind that sneaks up on you in a smile, a hug, or a breeze coming off the Caribbean sea.

My journey began with videography in 2016, but it was after Hurricanes Irma and Maria turned life upside down that I fully leaned into photography. I relocated to Florida and I had to sell my equipment to get by. Upon returning home, my friend Kareem gifted me a camera to help me start again. That gift didn’t just replace what I lost; it reignited something in me. I started photographing everything I could, and never stopped.

Today, my style is natural, warm, and connected. I shoot mostly outdoors, inspired by the lush greenery of the island and the soft tones of our beaches. While many associate beaches with swimwear and sun, I love capturing quiet, reflective moments—someone simply being in nature. Those still, soulful shots say so much.

But what truly fuels me is people. I've had clients become friends, and strangers open up during a shoot like we’ve known each other forever. Whether it’s a family reunion filled with laughter, or a personal shoot where someone finds confidence in front of the lens, these shared experiences are what I cherish most. One moment that stuck with me was with a client, N’Kiella, who said my energy made her feel instantly at ease, even when capturing the deeply personal theme of emotional struggle.

At Ohana Photographist, I keep things real, relaxed, and fun. I’ll probably crack a corny joke (yes, I’m the guy who still says “chicken butt!”) just to see you smile. Whether you're local or visiting, you’ll walk away not just with beautiful images—but with a warm memory of the time we shared.

When I’m not behind the camera, I’m hiking the island’s hidden trails, working on a wood project, fixing up cars, or whipping up meals for my family (my goal? To be the house everyone gathers at for Thanksgiving).

To me, ‘Ohana’ means connection, and every session is a chance to celebrate yours—with the people you love, in the place you love, at a moment you’ll never forget.
